Start Your Holiday At An August Trail Improvement Day This Saturday, August 31
Fall weather calls us back to the trail to work on the new trail project that we’ve been working on this summer between Deer Fly Trail and Hwy E. Kick off your Labor Day weekend by getting out and enjoying the morning working on the trail, then you can sit back for the rest of the weekend.
We will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Deer Fly Trail trailhead parking area, 25475 Deer Fly Trail. We’ll have light refreshments at the conclusion, but bring your own water, possibly a snack for mid-morning, and the usual bug repellent, & gloves. We provide tools.
Please confirm your intent to attend the improvement day via email so we can plan for you.

Don’t Miss Chapter Meeting & Pizza Party, Monday, Sept. 16
Last year’s September Chapter meeting was a big hit, because we combined it with a pizza party. So we are going to do it again this year on Monday, Sept. 16 starting at 6 p.m. at the Fill-Inn Station, 104 W Columbia St, Chippewa Falls. We’ll provide the pizza and soft drinks; avail yourself of the large selection of tap beer offerings if you choose.
We’re always happy to celebrate, and thank our hard-working volunteers and those who support us, so don’t miss it!
You don’t have to register, but if you do plan to come, go ahead and let us know anyway so we know how many pizzas to get ready.

Trailtessa Retreat Coming to Obey Center on Saturday, Sept. 28
An Ice Age Trail Alliance “Trailtessa” event, focused on women and the outdoors, is happening here at the Obey Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 28. On the agenda are several hike options (4.5-mile, 2-mile, and less-than-a-mile), light refreshments and snacks, and camaraderie. If you are interested in signing up (registration is required but there is no charge), go to https://www.iceagetrail.org/be-loved-saturday-september-28-2019/.
In addition to participating, our chapter has been invited to assist with supporting the event by helping with registration, leading hikes, helping at a crafts area, answering questions about the area, and donating baked goods. If you’d like to help out in one of these ways, let us know and we’ll pass the word on. The participants will be coming from a distance, so it’s helpful having locally knowledgeable volunteers involved to answer questions, etc.
You can extend the event! Girl Scout alumnae and friends are invited to an extended ("s’more”) retreat overnight at Camp Nawakwa. Download the information here.
Mark Your Calendar For The Parade of Colors, Saturday, Oct. 5
Our annual Fall Color Hike, the Parade of Colors, will once again be held on Saturday, October 5, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Obey Interpretive Center. No one should miss Autumn on the Ice Age Trail, and this is a great opportunity to hike and enjoy the fall color, cool weather, and camaraderie.
Chapter volunteers (any takers?) will shuttle hikers to their starting points, be it 6 miles or anything less. You get to enjoy the good part, the splendid views, colors, smells, and spirits of the fall woods. Somehow you’ll magically end up back where you started, for a chance to grab some refreshments, and perhaps stay a bit longer with the kids to see the exhibits and games at the Obey Center. You might even buy a T-shirt, fleece, hat, or trail guide.
If you would like to help, we always need drivers, hosts, and refreshment bakers. Let us know how you want to help, and everyone will appreciate it.
