Ice Age Trail Alliance Winter Rendezvous
You’re invited…Winter Rendezvous 2018!
When: Friday, February 2nd – Sunday, February 4th
Where: Treehaven, W2540 Pickerel Creek Rd, Tomahawk, WI 54487
Please Register by January 15th, 2018
Treehaven, located in Wisconsin’s beautiful North woods, is the destination for our winter gathering of Ice Age Trail Alliance Volunteers. The purpose of this get-together is to have fun and see our long-lost summer trailbuilding buddies!
The 2018 event will be a volunteer-led event (versus IATA staff-led event) and the volunteer team of Wanda Brown, Jane Wester and Rita Fox are committed to organizing the event for our trailbuilding friends!
Don’t delay! Mail your registration form (and money) to Wanda Brown at 6760 N. Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hill, FL 34465 by Jan 15th. After that, call Wanda @ 651-260-5890 for verbal registration until Thursday Feb 1st.
Lodging:
$46 per night of bunk space, 2 to 3 per room per person.
$86.00 single room per night.
You can choose to come for 1 night or 2 nights.
(We will be sharing the facility with another group of students the weekend of Feb 2-3, 2018.)
Meals:
Breakfast: $8.00
Lunch: $9.75
Supper: $12.50
If Treehaven gets a firm commitment from the college students, it should not be hard for us to get the required 20 count for each meal: Friday supper, Saturday breakfast, lunch, supper, & Sunday breakfast. (If we did not get the required 20, we would simply decide to potluck or go to a restaurant in the area.)
Winter Rendezvous Plan for Fun:
While Treehaven is not having their traditional snow-shoe race in 2018, the trails around Treehaven are great for snowshoeing and CC skiing. We have also found a gem of a park that has CC skiing trails nearby. The usual games, cards, shenanigans will go on, and the 2018 Mobile Skills Crew calendar will be available.
If you have photos for the 2017 “Year in Review” presentation please send them to Jane Wester (Jane.Wester@yahoo.com)
Who knows, someone might organize some cribbage, golf, other card tourneys, or maybe a snowshoe race. Of course Farkle will be played by many!!
Questions?
Please call Wanda Brown at 651-260-5890 or Jane Wester at 414-469-4888.
We hope to see you soon!

IAT-Mayo Snowshoe Hike, Saturday, Feb. 24
Mark your calendar for the first Snowshoe Hike at the Chippewa Moraine co-sponsored by IATA and Mayo Clinic Health System on Saturday, Feb. 24. The event will run from 1 PM to 2:30 PM and include warm drinks, refreshments, and a bonfire. Bring the kids! If you don’t have snowshoes, you can borrow a pair (Mayo is providing an ample supply). Please register so we can contact you in case of cancellation (click the blue button on the page to register).
NPS IANST Superintendent John Madden Retires
Congratulations to the NPS Superintendent of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, John Madden, on his January 31 retirement. By its nature, the NPS staff work in the background to (among a myriad of tasks) keep the trail’s federal funding applied for and managed, conduct corridor planning, set and insure standards, recognize and train volunteers and pay any medical costs incurred by them, and generally run interference between the volunteers on the ground and federal government needs and priorities. Leading this effort for the past few years, John Madden has excelled at making the case for the trail to the public and within the National Park Service. We wish him all the best on his retirement back “home” to Washington state, and thanks for his career of service.
Volunteer Hours
It’s volunteer hours reporting time again, so if you have hours to report for the period from 10/1/17 through the end of 2017 and they weren’t captured on a group sign-in sheet, please send your reports for tallying.
