Say Farewell To Part of Firth Lake Segment on Sunday Afternoon Hike Sept. 3

Include a visit to the Ice Age Trail on the Labor Day Weekend and join a chapter-led group hike on the Firth Lake Segment. This afternoon saunter will cover 3.3 miles and visit Firth Lake, a cold cache site, and more. We’ll say a bittersweet farewell to a trail segment that has served us well for 40 years, as the trail will soon be relocated in the area. We’ll see late summer birds, frogs, mushrooms and berries. Bring your water, snack, hat, repellant, and a friend!

Meet at the Ice Age Trail parking area on Hwy CC at 1 PM, Sept. 3. After a quick shuttle we’ll be on our way. Nearby, Cornell offers great ice cream (and more) when we’re done.

Parade of Colors Fall Hike, Saturday, Oct. 7

After a full summer we celebrate the trail in all its glorious fall colors at the annual Parade of Colors Fall Hike on the Ice Age Trail. This year the hike falls on Saturday, Oct. 7. If you haven’t visited the trail this season, you owe it to yourself to experience the trail at its colorful best. Grab a companion, bring the gang, or just come and hike with a new friend. Choose your length from 1 to 6 miles, and chapter volunteers will shuttle you out to your starting point. Refreshments will await you upon your return to the Obey Center, or bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy there.

We always need a full complement of chapter volunteers, from shuttle drivers, registrars, bakers, and servers. If you can help, add your name to our list.

Firth Lake Area Trail Relocation - MSC Project - Oct. 11-15

Trail builders from around the region will converge for the Firth Lake Trail Relocation Project, Oct. 11-15. There’s a role there for you, regardless of your skill level. Of course we especially need trail workers, but lots of other support roles are also needed, from cooking to registration and more. Get full details and register online for a day or the whole period. Camp sites and all meals are provided to all participants.

Thanks To Chain Saw Donor

Amidst general consernation over the theft of a chain saw and other tools from our storage facility in August came the good news that an anonymous donor had presented us with a replacement chain saw. Our spirits quickly rebounded and we can’t thank the donor enough. The many who enjoy the opportunities the Ice Age Trail provides join us in our appreciation.
