Ice Age Trail Trail Dispatch
April 2014
First Aid / CPR Training Offered for Active Chapter Volunteers
Safety is a continuous concern on the Chippewa Moraine section of the Ice Age Trail. In past years the Chippewa Moraine Chapter has helped our active members prepare for safe adventures by offering Red Cross First Aid/CPR courses. At our last meeting, we voted to again help members who will be working on the trail this season in gaining or renewing these Red Cross skills. This year, we will team up with the Chippewa Valley YMCA, which routinely offers courses.
If you are a Chippewa Moraine Chapter member, will be helping out on the trail this season, and wish to renew or learn Red Cross CPR/First Aid skills, the cost to you will be $25 and the Chippewa Moraine Chapter will pay the remainder of the fee.
To enroll with our IAT program, choose your date and then please call or email Nancy Schuster: 715-723-6114; nbbsch@charter.net. Name, address, phone, e-mail, and birth date are necessary for registration. Then we need to have your check for $25 made out to “Chippewa Moraine Chapter IAT” and sent to:
Nancy Schuster, 5997 167th Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729

Register Immediately for IATA Annual Conference
The IATA Annual Conference is just two weeks away. If you are planning to attend, you will need to consult the full information online, print out the registration form, and mail it in as soon as possible. The registration deadline has technically passed, but because the Postal Service seems to have lost the entire Mammoth Tales mailing, the deadline is being extended a few more days. If you are considering going, you should register as soon as possible.
Trail Cleanup Planned for Saturday, April 19
It’s “all hands on deck” for a trail spring cleaning on Saturday, April 19. The following weekend the trail hosts an ultra marathon, and so our goal is to have the trail free of downed branches and trees and ready for the event, not to mention the spring hiking season. Because we hope to cover lots of territory, lots of hands and feet will make it easy on all.
We’ll meet at 9 AM at the Interpretive Center at the Chippewa Moraine. Bring along appropriate clothing and footwear for mud and residual snow. There may even be ticks, who knows! Also bring water, your lunch, and a couple of pairs of work gloves in case one gets wet.
Important: If you can come, please email Tony Schuster to register so we can strategically plan our attack, and also so we can contact you if the day has to be changed due to weather conditions.
Hunting for the Mammoth
Normally you would have received your copy of Mammoth Tales by now, and would have read about the annual conference, not to mention all the other great features. As mentioned, the issue somehow was lost in the mail and it may take some time either to find them or reprint them. In the meantime, you can download the Spring 2014 issue from the iceagetrail.org website, as well as back issues.
Chapter Event Postcard
The annual chapter event postcard will soon arrive, listing events for all planned hikes, workdays, etc. this year. It’s also available online. Our updated events calendar is always available online.
