August 2010
Reminder: August Sunday Hike on Sunday, August 1
If you are looking for an enjoyable outing on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, join us tomorrow, Sunday, August 1 at 1 PM for a hike on the trail in the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve Area. We'll hike around 4.5 miles, enjoy the views and mushrooms along the route, and afterwards check out nearby Max's on Long Lake for a very informal gathering and a chance to enjoy some refreshments and even their famous pizza.
Weather is predicted to be partly cloudy, 82, with only a small chance of a shower. Mosquitoes, alas, are also in the forecast.
Meet at 1 PM at the Chippewa Moraine Visitor Center.
Special Trail Improvement Day Opportunity, Friday, August 6
An unexpected offer by an Eau Claire organization has prompted us to plan a special trail improvement day on Friday, August 6. We'll meet at 9:15 AM at the Chippewa Moraine Visitor Center, and spend the day cleaning, lopping, and sprucing up a section of trail. We'd love to have you along as well. This is pleasant work, mostly lopping and throwing branches off the trail, but be prepared to tangle with blackberry canes! That means wear long pants, long sleeves, and work gloves and sturdy footwear. Mosquitoes will join us, of course, so plan for that, and bring a lunch and water if you plan to stay into the afternoon.
The group is eager to work till 3:30 or 4, but feel free to stay as long as you wish.
If you can't make this weekday opportunity, we have another day planned for Saturday, August 21.
If you plan to come on either day, please let us know with an email to chapter@iatchippewa.org.
See you on the trail,
Richard Smith
