Trail Dispatches
From the Chippewa Moraine Chapter, IAPTF
Trail Runner is ON TRACK!
Jason made it to Thorp tonight (Tuesday) after passing through Chippewa-land today. Here’s what he had to say:
The Chippewa Moraine section today and the trails were superb. We could actually run them without twisting an ankle. At about the half way section a reporter from Eau Claire Channel 18 (Cassy) got some footage for the evening news. We of course did not get to see it but it should be on their website. Also, Tom Held of the Journal Sentinal has a daily blog going too. All the publicity is good as we have had several people come out and meet us on the trail today.
Earth Day Hike is This Sunday
There’s no end to Earth Day events and things to do on Saturday (don’t fail to hit at least one!), so we “counter-programmed” with an Earth Day hike on the day after! Join us this Sunday at 9:30 AM at the Chippewa Moraine Visitor Center, east of New Auburn, for a gentle ramble along perhaps the most superb of our county’s superb trail. We may even stop to visit the heron rookery!
Bring a lunch if you wish. The hike will probably take about 3 hours in all.
A great day for trail work!
Our first trail improvement day of the season was a great success. Jim Brenner guided novice and journeyman alike in buffing up the recently-built Chippewa Moraine segment. Signage was installed on the Firth Lake segment entry, inspection of Mud Brook crossing yielded plans for the boardwalk project coming soon, and plans were made for a small bridge on the Chippewa River segment.
Thanks to Tony Schuster, Dave Rasmussen, Jim Brenner, Christine Schaaf, Gerald Munyon, Mike Rivers, and Dave Caliebe, for a job well done. It earned an “attaboy” from IAPTF President John Shank who walked the trail the following day.
Did I mention that the weather was perfect?
See you on the trail!
