| Pet Trek This Saturday at 10 AM a pack of dogs and their owners will gather at the Chippewa Moraine Visitor Center to hike on the trails, enjoy some treats, and win some “fabulous” prizes. Registration starts at 9:30 AM. Some great door prizes will be awarded, so don’t stay indoors! Thanks to JoAnn Parks for putting this event together again this year. Trailbuilding Along The Chippewa The weather was less than ideal but the job got done and it is spectacular! Our thanks to the trailworkers who came from around the state to work on this project, through snow and blustery winds. Thanks also to our local volunteers who worked, helped with food, “greeted” workers and kept the parking lot fire going. Special recognition goes to the students from Cornell who took took their day off of school to work on the project under nasty weather conditions! If you’re looking for a short but magnificent walk on a beautiful late fall afternoon, stop at the parking lot on Hwy CC, 2 miles north of Cornell, and walk south along the river on the new trail and back to your car. If time permits, at the end of the section just climb up to the highway shoulder and follow it south another 2000 feet to the other new segment which runs about a mile to Hwy Z. Award for Adam Cahow Adam Cahow needs little introduction, but he deserves much recognition! We took care of a little of that on Friday, Oct. 13 at Brunet Island State Park as he was presented with the Presidential and Secretary’s awards from the Department of the Interior for his extraordinary hours of service to the trail and its users. At the recognition, Adam had a chance to talk a bit about the history of the trail, and visit with younger trail builders who are following in his giant footsteps. In response to inquiries about how to thank Adam, we are suggesting donations in his honor to the Blue Hills Chapter, where he is doing most of his trailbuilding work these days. These contributions help defray the cost of materials needed for trail construction and improvement. Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Expo is on the horizon Please consider joining other chapter volunteers for an enjoyable day of telling our Minnesota and western Wisconsin friends about the joys of the Ice Age Trail. You don’t have to be an expert, just have some basic familiarity with the trail. As a side bonus, you get some free time to shop for seriously marked-down outdoor gear.
