Late August 2016

Bridges Of Chippewa County Are Focus Of August Workday This Saturday, Aug. 27

Our August workday has shaped into, among other things, a bridge or boardwalk rehabilitation workday. If you like to work on structures, then this is your chance to grab the power driver and drill some screws! If your interests lie in the area of more general maintenance, fear not, as we’ll have a crew working on the remaining downed branches from the windstorm. Either way, it is super-helpful if you can let us know you are planning on attending.

We’ll meet at the Obey Interpretive Center at the Chippewa Moraine, 13394 Co Hwy M, New Auburn WI 54757, at 9 AM. Bring along water and a snack, work gloves, power drill if you have one, and of course your favorite insect strategy. We expect to be done by shortly past noon, so lunches are optional.

If you can come, please email Jerry Sazama to let him know. For more information, call Jerry (715) 723-6955.

NPS Centennial Photo Exhibit Wraps Up On Aug 26

Don’t forget to check out the NPS Centennial Photo Exhibit at the Heyde Center by this Friday, August 26. The exhibit features photos and information about a wide variety of National Park Service properties. The images are displayed in three galleries and the main floor hall, so allow some time to see it all.

The exhibit can be viewed during regular Heyde Center hours at no charge. The Heyde Center is open weekdays, Mon - Thursday 10-5, Friday 10-4. The Heyde Center is at 3 South High St., Chippewa Falls WI. More information. Directions

Visit the Chippewa Falls Library To See Our Ice Age Trail Exhibit

Our exhibit is now on display at the Chippewa Falls Library. It highlights the trail and the many resources available to learn about it, from books to maps to brochures, many of which are available either from the library or right there at the display. The display also celebrates the August 26th centennial of the National Park Service, of which the Ice Age National Scenic Trail is a part.

The display also highlights the donation made to the library by the IATA and with an anonymous donation of a suite of books about the trail. The books include the 2014 Guidebook2014 AtlasAlong Wisconsin’s Ice Age TrailGeology of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, and Adventures on Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail, by chapter member Sylvia Oberle. These books will all be available for borrowing from the library.

Kudos to Nancy Schuster for putting the display together, to the Alliance for the IATA publications, and to an anonymous donor for the others.

Can You Hear The Sound Of The Parade of Colors?

Our annual Parade of Colors Fall Hike on the IAT will be held on Saturday, October 1 this year. Mark your calendars and plan to attend (and help out at) our biggest event of the season! As always, shuttle drivers, bakers, and hosts are in high demand for the day. If you want to grab the coveted volunteer slots early, just email the chapter now and let us know what you want to do! If you don’t wish to help out, plan to come anyway for a great hike at the best time of the year.
