Can This Be Spring? Can It Be Time For A Chapter Meeting?
Our first Chippewa Moraine Chapter meeting is coming up on Monday, March 21.
It’s been quite awhile since you’ve heard from us, but as the weather warms, the trail beckons. Heed the call, and join us at our first meeting at the Chippewa Falls Library on Monday, March 21, at 6:30 PM. We’ll take a look at what’s on our plate for spring trail events and workdays, and generally review the state of the trail for 2016. It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with trail friends as well.
The Library is located at 105 W Central St., Chippewa Falls.
Join An Early Clean Sweep On April 2
We always begin the trail improvement season with a general clean sweep day to get the trail shipshape for spring hiking and especially the Chippewa 50K UltraMarathon. The trail run happens on April 23, but for a variety of reasons (not least of all the earlier access made possible by the early spring weather) we need to schedule this clean up day for Saturday, April 2. As always, it is great to have lots of hands to cover as much ground as possible on this day, so we really look forward to seeing you. It’s not all that difficult work, so it’s a great opportunity for people of all skill levels. We will pick up branches, do a bit of spot pruning, cut up some larger downed branches and trees, and clean up any debris that may have blown in over the winter. It’s also a great chance to survey the trail and determine future maintenance needs.
If you can join us, meet at the Obey Interpretive Center at the Chippewa Moraine new New Auburn at 9 AM, and we'll head out to our work location. Wear long sleeves and pants, sturdy work shoes, be prepared for ticks, and bring work gloves, water, lunch, and a snack.
For this date, please confirm your intent to attend the workday so we can plan for you and make your time worthwhile and productive by emailing Tony Schuster.
Annual IATA Conference Registration Deadline is NEAR!
Some important deadlines are close at hand for those intending to participate in the 2016 IATA Annual Conference and Membership Meeting, to be held April 7-10 in Rothschild (near Wausau).
- Lodging: To assure rooms and IATA rates, register BEFORE Monday, March 14
- Conference Registration: Registration materials should be in Cross Plains by Friday, March 18
Full information about the conference is in Mammoth Tales, which members should have received. You can find full details and registration materials online as well. Just download, print the registration form, and mail with payment.
This location is great for us, so be sure to seriously consider attending the conference.
With Spring Comes the Annual Outdoor Expo!
The semi-annual Midwest Outdoor Adventure Expo comes on April 22-24 this year. As always, our chapter staffs the show on Sunday, which is April 24 this year. If you’d like to be part of the fun, please let us know. Just email the chapter.
